PROMOTORES de CUYAMA

Working in conjunction with the Santa Barbara County Promotores de Salud (which translates as “community health workers"), the CVFRC has provided specialized personal and leadership development training for members of the local Latino community. Now certified as Promotores de Cuyama, these community members are working in Cuyama to support the health, engagement and wellbeing of their peers in the local Latino Spanish-speaking and bilingual community.

Promotores de Salud are found in communities across the United States and internationally. The mission of the organization is to educate and empower community activists who can identify issues in the Latino community and work together to find and implement solutions.

In their first year alone, the Promotores de Cuyama have been working diligently to serve the community in many ways:

Educating and advocating for a greater voice in the development of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act.

Working in Cuyama schools to provide support for teachers, assist students’, and prevent bullying in the schools.

Nutrition issues that impact the Latino community.

Assisting with basic, yet essential dental care.

Helping families that are coping with issues related to Alzheimer’s and dementia.
